High blood sugar levels, a serious health danger, affect Native Americans, Blacks, Hispanics, and Asian Americans more than the Caucasian population.
“More than 14 percent of Native Americans and Alaskan natives live with blood sugar problems,” said Dr. John Burd, CEO of Lysulin, Inc., a health and wellness company in San Diego. “That is almost double the rate for non-Hispanic whites.”

Dr. Burd, a Ph.D. and biochemist, said everyone, especially people who are overweight, should have their blood sugar levels checked by their family physician.
“Your doctor can administer an eight-hour fasting blood sugar level test and an A1C test, which gives you a three-month average,” he added. “Depending on how high your blood sugar levels are, your doctor will probably suggest a low-carb diet, exercise, or prescribe prescription drugs.”
