GMA Pictures renews Columbia distribution partnership for ‘Amir’
The film stars Dennis Trillo and Argus Aspiras and is an entry in the 2026 Metro Manila Film Festival.

Columbia Pictures will distribute GMA Pictures’ “Amir” under a renewed partnership for the film’s 2026 Metro Manila Film Festival release, according to a report by Nelson Canlas on “24 Oras”. Dennis Trillo and Argus Aspiras lead the cast.
Representatives from Columbia Pictures, Brightburn Entertainment, GMA Public Affairs and GMA Pictures signed the agreement. The companies previously worked together on “Green Bones”, an entry in the 2024 festival.
GMA Pictures president and GMA Network Inc. senior vice president Annette Gozon-Valdes led the signing. She said the company had chosen Columbia again because of its distribution expertise and satisfaction with earlier results. Trillo attended on behalf of Brightburn Entertainment.
The teaser for “Amir” has drawn more than four million social media views. It introduces Aspiras’ character, a boy whose unusual experiences suggest magic around him, and includes depictions of Muslim cultural heritage in Mindanao.
Zig Dulay directs the film, with a screenplay by National Artist Ricky Lee and Anj Atienza. Glaiza de Castro, Will Ashley and Ronnie Lazaro also appear in the cast.
The production brings together GMA Public Affairs, GMA Pictures and Brightburn Entertainment, which is owned by Trillo and his wife, Jennylyn Mercado.
