Performers from Vietnam and China took part in the Vietnam-China Harmony concert to commemorate the 77th anniversary of China's founding on October 1, 1949. Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security and the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam jointly hosted the event.

Guests included Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Phan Van Giang, Public Security Minister Luong Tam Quang and Foreign Affairs Minister Le Hoai Trung. Chinese representatives included diplomat Wang Qun and the centre's director, Wang Ning.

Both countries' national anthems were played by the Hanoi Symphony Orchestra as the opening selections. The Vietnamese repertoire included Festival Overture, composed by Dang Huu Phuc, and Xuan Khai's Homeland Emotion, featuring moon-lute player and People's Artist Co Huy Hung.

Trumpeter Wang Yubing presented You and Me, used as the theme for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, while Dao Mac sang the Journey to the West television song Where Is the Way? The Butterfly Lovers' Violin Concerto, first performed in 1959, was also on the programme.

China's soprano Zhou Xiaolin sang Hanoi, Faith and Hope with choirs from the two theatres. Artists representing both countries also performed international selections, including O Sole Mio, Ô vin, dissipe la tristesse and Nessun Dorma.
