Puccini's Turandot is returning to the Malaysian stage after an absence of more than two decades. Kuala Lumpur City Opera (KLCO) will present the opera at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac) from October 17 to 25, as part of the 2026 Week of the Italian Language in the World.

Italian conductor Alessandro Mazzocchetti will lead the production, which brings Malaysian performers together with international artists. The ensemble includes an orchestra of 50 musicians and a chorus with 70 members, alongside the principal singers.

Amelia Tan is directing the staging, with Malaysian fashion house Behati contributing through a creative collaboration. The opera will be sung in Italian, while surtitles will provide English and Chinese translations.

The Italian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur is supporting the production. Italian Ambassador to Malaysia Raffaele Langella said the initiative was part of the embassy's work to promote Italian language and culture in Malaysia. He also described Mazzocchetti's involvement as an opportunity for artistic exchange and closer cooperation between the two countries.
