Malaysia has allocated more than RM130 million in Budget 2027 to support domestic creative content, music and film. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the funding during his October 9 budget presentation, with the stated goals of raising the country’s profile, providing employment opportunities and reaching overseas audiences with Malaysian stories.

The budget also fully exempts tickets for local films and theatre performances from entertainment duty in the Federal Territories. MyCreative Ventures said the exemption would help local productions attract audiences, improve public access to content and raise industry earnings.

In a statement on October 15, MyCreative Ventures welcomed the allocation. It said government backing would help creative businesses develop talent, improve the quality of their work and become more sustainable amid technological change and international competition.

The organisation said its continuing support would focus on building industry capabilities, helping develop intellectual property and bringing it to market, and widening commercial opportunities.

Group chairman Datuk Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik said the funding demonstrated the MADANI Government’s commitment to a more competitive creative sector with a greater contribution to Malaysia’s economy.
