Foreign film projects generated more than ฿7.51 billion for Thailand in January-September 2026, setting a record, deputy government spokesperson Ploythalay Laksameesangchan said on October 4.

Applications for filming permission covered 423 foreign productions during the period. Ploythalay attributed overseas interest to the country’s filming locations, local production crews, infrastructure and financial incentives.

The United States led investment, with 38 productions generating ฿2.379 billion. The United Kingdom was second, contributing ฿1.679 billion through 27 productions. Finland ranked next, with one project generating ฿448 million. China accounted for the largest number of projects: 52 productions worth ฿253.23 million.

Thailand offers foreign productions cash rebates of up to 30 per cent. Additional incentives are tied to employing Thai personnel, choosing provincial filming locations and carrying out post-production work within the country.

The Department of Tourism expects more foreign productions to arrive in the fourth quarter. It estimates that revenue from overseas productions could reach between ฿8 billion and ฿10 billion across the full year.
