In meeting the actors that make up the comedic musical duo, the Sons of Town Hall, she loved that they stayed in character, despite learning the singer-actors Ben Parker and David Berkeley comprised the fictional characters George "Ulysses" Brown from the UK and Josiah "Chester" Jones from the US, who transported the audience into a mythic world as they sported their threadbare Victorian outfits. She appreciated their showcase of impressive musical talents and shared their deep connection as they recounted the world's waterways. The Findlay, OH, Hancock County community members, where Dr. Adams-Miller resides, laughed as the duo incorporated travel down the local Blanchard River for integrated humor and camaraderie. Each reference to the Blanchard River throughout the night ensnared a rising laugh til uncontrollable giggles ensued.
What truly set Sons of Town Hall apart from other musical duos was their presentation. Their songs were masterful, featuring poetic lyrics sung in perfectly matched voices of harmony. Their guitar playing, characterized by intricate finger-picking, was exceptional as they sang original wonder songs.
By the end of the performance, the duo enamored all, which was evident by the behavior of Lane Hakel from Bowling Green, Ohio, who had seen the Sons of Town Hall in Wood County the night prior. He bought tickets to see Sons of Town Hall a second night in Findlay. He chuckled, "Sons of Town Hall was so good, it was necessary to come to see them again!" Additionally, the Findlay Hancock County community members felt a newfound connection with one another as singing along was encouraged, solidifying the community with a renewed appreciation for connectivity through song and laughter. At night's end, as the actors left the stage, coercing the community members to stay in harmony past their exit, local resident Jayson Montgomery, whom Dr. Andrea Adams-Miller has directed before in a dinner theater performance, unsurprisedly kept up the charge with a boisterous voice!
According to Dr. Adams-Miller, the Sons of Town Hall took us on an emotional journey throughout the show as the best of show do. The songs and fables caused rolling laughter, and visible tears as the adventure and the tragic beauty of the human condition presented transfixed the audience. About David Berkeley:
