Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez to star in musical opening in May 2027
“Kailangan Kita” will bring Alcasid’s songs to the Newport Performing Arts Theater, with a fictional story about a musician rediscovering his craft.

Ogie Alcasid has announced that he and his wife, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, will lead the cast of “Kailangan Kita: An Ogie Alcasid Musical”. The production is scheduled for a May 2027 opening at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in the Philippines.
Developed over seven years, the musical draws on songs Alcasid has written and performed during his nearly 40-year career. He announced the project at the closing performance of “Bongga Ka, ’Day!: The Annie Batungbakal Musical”, following a medley that included Kailangan Kita, Hanggang Ngayon and Dito sa Puso Ko.
The plot centres on Roger Kundirana, a singer-songwriter who abandons music following personal and financial setbacks. While raising his daughter Himig, he discourages her from entering the profession. Meeting her music teacher, Arlene, prompts him to reconnect with songwriting and singing, as the threat of a major earthquake hangs over Metro Manila.
Velasquez-Alcasid told The Philippine STAR that the production would feature a fictional romance rather than the couple’s own relationship. The pair are credited with the story and concept, while Eljay Castro Deldoc wrote the book. Ian Segarra and Johnnie Moran will direct, in collaboration with PETA Plus.
Newport World Resorts, ATeam PH, Viva Communications and The Philippine STAR are jointly producing the show. Additional casting details, performance dates and ticket information are expected before the opening.
