Malaysian film Curi Makan set for world premiere in Rotterdam
The horror satire will screen in the festival’s Harbour programme, while a Malaysian cinema release remains uncertain.

Malaysian independent film Curi Makan will make its world debut at the 56th International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), scheduled for January 28 to February 7, 2027, in the Netherlands.
Released internationally under the title Ali & Ben’s Spicy Meats, the film was named on October 29 among the festival’s first 10 announced world premieres. It has a place in Harbour, IFFR’s programme for contemporary films from across the world.
Combining dark comedy, horror and satire, the story centres on two friends facing financial trouble whose pickle venture finds success after they discover an unconventional ingredient. Cannibalism features in the plot, as growing attention puts their secret at risk.
Feisk Productions founders Iskandar Azizuddin and Feisal wrote the screenplay during Ramadan, several months before shooting in 2025. Iskandar told Malay Mail they wanted to pursue their own filmmaking voice rather than follow prevailing trends.
Iskandar said the pair hoped to bring the film to Malaysian cinemas eventually, alongside screenings abroad. No domestic theatrical release is confirmed, and further festival appearances and distribution agreements have not been announced.
Amir Nafis, Syazani Zikry and Bella Imani star in the film. Kuala Lumpur-based Abnormal Studios is handling worldwide sales.
