The revival of Puteri Gunung Ledang The Musical sold out its 23,000 tickets within two hours, according to producer and director Puan Sri Tiara Jacquelina. The production runs from Oct 31 to Nov 15 at The Grand Theatre, Jeffrey Cheah Performing Arts Centre (JCPAC), in Sunway Square.

Tiara said around 22,000 people were still waiting online when tickets ran out. Another production is booked into the theatre immediately after the musical. She said preliminary discussions had begun about taking the show back to Singapore, but cautioned that moving such a large production across borders would be difficult.

Based on the 2004 film, the musical made its stage debut at Istana Budaya in 2006. Tiara said all 50 performers in the revival had been assigned named characters, with individual histories and defined parts in the story.

Aisha Retno and Mila Mohsin alternate as Gusti Puteri Raden Adjeng Retno Dumilah. Responding to online comparisons, Aisha urged audiences to recognise each performer's strengths. Mimi Fly and Nadia Aqilah share the role of Bayan, the princess's companion; Nadia returns after appearing in the original 2006 ensemble.

Aqasha plays Hang Tuah, having portrayed the Bendahara of Melaka and understudied Hang Tuah in 2006. He said he had declined other acting work to concentrate on training. Yusof Hashim secured the role of Gusti Adipati through auditions and studied Javanese etiquette and court hierarchy before learning his lines.
