Malaysia reviews need for tighter rules on Roblox and online games
The review covers player interactions, game content and safeguards for children, alongside a public consultation on a Gaming SubCode.

Malaysia’s communications regulator is assessing whether online gaming platforms, including Roblox, need additional rules to protect children from digital safety risks, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is conducting the assessment with the Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia (CMCF). Their work examines how players interact, the content available within games and the protections offered by platform providers.
Fahmi said the review also examines overseas regulatory approaches to identify safeguards suitable for Malaysia. Its findings, together with feedback from a public consultation, will inform rules based on evidence and proportionate to the risks.
CMCF’s consultation on a Gaming SubCode involves app store operators, Malaysian and international game developers, online safety specialists, the esports sector, legal practitioners and researchers.
The government is also seeking to improve parents’ and guardians’ understanding of controls available on devices and online services. These efforts fall under the Safe Internet Campaign, which has a Budget 2027 allocation of RM58.7 million and targets young users, parents, guardians, teachers and communities.
