Singapore acts sub:shaman and motifs join KEXP’s first Asia recording project
The Bali sessions feature six songs from sub:shaman and five from motifs, combining earlier material with newer tracks.

KEXP’s first recording project in Asia includes Bali performances by Singapore bands sub:shaman and motifs, filmed through a partnership with AXEAN Festival. The Seattle-based music platform released sub:shaman’s session on 4 November.
Puri Bhagawan hosted sub:shaman’s recording on 29 August. Four of the six songs are new, while ‘Maraschino Mist’ and the title track of their 2017 debut album, Apnea, represent their earlier work. The band said in a comment below the video that the new songs will come to major streaming platforms in December. Their KEXP appearance follows a Baybeats return in 2024 after a five-year hiatus.
For motifs, the recording took place on 28 August at Locca Sea House. Their five selections draw on debut album remember a stranger and the subsequent EP If This House Was Bigger. The EP supplies the opening song, ‘Aug 16’, and the closing number, ‘Maybe In Another Dream’. Between them are ‘hourglass’, ‘summersad’ and ‘remember a stranger’.
Singapore acts with earlier KEXP appearances include Subsonic Eye and Sobs. Subsonic Eye participated in Live at Home in 2021 and made a visit to KEXP’s Seattle studio in 2022. Sobs’ session was recorded during the band’s US tour in 2023.
