Astro adds Tamil channel Sony Vizha ahead of Deepavali
The broadcaster also plans a free Deepavali Kondattam show in Shah Alam, with about 1,000 visitors expected.

Astro has launched Sony Vizha, a premium Tamil-language channel, as part of its Deepavali programming. The new service made its debut at 10.30pm on Channel 220, with a schedule spanning films, reality programmes, game shows, original dramas and concerts.
Jegan Manickam Wash, Astro’s head of content for the Indian Customer Business, said the channel would offer new programming throughout the year rather than serve only as a festive addition. Its content will also cover Tamil culture, music, storytelling and everyday life.
The broadcaster previewed its festive programming at a Deepavali open house attended by about 150 entertainers, media representatives and partners at the Jasmine Signature Ballroom in Petaling Jaya. Malaysian performers provided music, dance and cultural performances during the gathering.
Astro also plans to hold Deepavali Kondattam at Shah Alam’s MBSA Auditorium, featuring performers from Malaysia and Singapore. The event is expected to attract about 1,000 visitors and will be televised on Deepavali. Entry is free, with advance registration required through a QR code on the Astro Ulagam website.
